對於慢跑,甚或各種運動,我有一些心得跟大家分享。
慢跑讓我得到的,其實不止是身體的健康,不止是體能的進步,更重要的,
是心理層面的收獲。
曾經我以為,慢跑是一件很蠢、很呆,很痛苦的事情。人為什麼要讓自己這
麼痛苦,跑個上氣不接下氣,汗流浹背兼氣喘吁吁,跑到後來甚至手腳發
軟,全身沒力。
這些想法,其實都來自我從小對運動的厭惡。我真的討厭運動,學生時代每
一科成績都很好,就是體育不行。體育課不管是打籃球,還是游泳,我通通
不參加,只會站在一旁觀看,或是躲在樹蔭底下乘涼。
既然如此,我是從什麼時候開始運動的呢?
這是2009年的事。那一年八月,我正式開始減肥,並希望是人生最後一次。
這一次頗幸運,我從113公斤,瘦到了70公斤。中間過程相當艱辛,事過境
遷倒也雲淡風輕。
減肥瘦身,飲食控制加規律運動為不二法門。在運動方面,我在體重最重
時,靠的是游泳,以減輕膝蓋與骨頭負荷。當我瘦到約80公斤時,便開始加
入慢跑,也開始建立獨屬於我的慢跑人生。
慢跑是一種最便宜的運動,穿上慢跑鞋,找個學校操場或公園,就可以在風
中馳騁。但不管是成本考量,還是身體健康,都只是慢跑的附加好處。
慢跑帶給我最大的收獲,是心靈上的成就。慢跑讓我學到兩件事,第一,別
輕易放過自己。
慢跑的過程很痛苦,從跨出第一步開始向前跑,你一定會碰到那最難突破的
關卡,可能是生理上的體能關卡,也可能是心理上的堅持關卡。此時,你會
痛苦萬分,發現自己瀕臨崩潰邊緣,只要精神意志一鬆脫,全身肌肉一沒跟
上,你可能就停下腳步了。
這時,我學會別輕易放過自己。或者該說,別輕易放棄。堅持下去,調整呼
吸,學習專注接收身體每一寸肌肉與骨骼傳達來的訊息,你一定要注意聆聽
這些訊息,同時調整自己的跑姿,改變自己的施力,讓自己可以繼續跑下
去。這是生理上。
而在心理上,此時的痛苦,上氣不接下氣,是一個人在安全狀態下最接近死
亡的時刻,「置之死地而後生」。說死亡,或許太誇張了,不如說是最接近
臨界點的時刻,你難道不想知道,跨過臨界點,你可以面對什麼樣的身心狀
態?你的生理體能與精神意志,在跨過臨界點後,又能有什麼樣的表現?難
道你從不好奇?
最少,你可以享受這種「痛苦的歡愉」,安全的體驗瀕亡狀態。這是一種什
麼樣的狀態呢?坦白說,這很玄,我不確定是不是每個跑友都會有相同感
受。但我分享一下我的感覺。在這種狀態下,每一次呼吸都要用力到底,胸
腔擴至最大,大量空氣灌入,讓身體獲得暫時的舒緩,腦袋隨之清楚,但因
應身體繼續向前奔跑,吸納進入體內的氧氣又不夠了,腦袋很快又昏沈,必
須再用力呼吸,讓腦袋再度清楚。腦袋在清楚與昏沈之間反覆,昏沈時忘記
痛苦憂愁,清楚時感受希望無窮,感受力量源源不絕。坦白說,這種效果很
像吸毒,會成癮的。一個有慢跑習慣的人,已經享受這種時而昏沈時而清醒
的感受,怎麼還需要借助毒品?
而在越過臨界點後,你會發現自己擁有過去從未發現的潛力。此時,身體是
輕鬆的,痛苦已經消失,只剩下歡愉。不需要用力呼吸,身體就可以吸進足
夠的氧氣,腦袋可以長時間維持清醒狀態,不會有偶爾陷入昏沈的狀況。全
身肌肉都放鬆了,大腿仿佛感受不到乳酸堆積帶來的不適,可以大跨步向前
奔馳。就我的身體狀態而言,大約慢跑三十分鐘就可以進入這種舒服的狀
態,一旦進入這種舒服的狀態,便可以繼續慢跑三十分鐘。
然而,慢跑讓我學會的第二件事,在我看來也是最重要的一件事,就是:適
時放過自己。
越過臨界點後,你可以很輕鬆的繼續跑上三十分鐘,六十分鐘,甚至九十分
鐘。身體適應後,你很容易就會志得意滿,開始追逐更好的慢跑表現,想要
一天一天締造紀錄。甚至,隨著體能的進步,你確實也可以挑戰更高的目
標,讓你開始設定更長,更遠的慢跑計劃。
進步是應該的,但不要忘記,可以逼自己,但不要逼死自己。尤其是面對身
體,你要懂得放鬆,懂得見好就收,懂得放過自己。尤其當身體已經給你警
訊時,你更要注意。
放過自己,並不是怠惰,而是為了走更長遠的路。如果我的職業是運動員,
我可以每天都長時間慢跑。但事實上,我們都不是職業運動員,我們明天要
上班上課,我們的生活還有許多煩心事。養成運動習慣,是為了讓我們有更
好的身體,更好的心理狀態,來面對生活中的一切挑戰與種種困難。運動,
不應該給我們帶來更多的身體負擔,造成額外的挑戰與困難。
這是我從慢跑那裡學來的新人生觀。堅持下去,但要懂得放過自己。你要瞭
解自己的極限何在,也可以透過循序漸進的訓練,提升自己的極限,挑戰自
己的極限。但見好就收,淺嚐即止。
坦白說,我們受的教育,總告訴我們要堅持「到底」。也因此,堅持比放過
自己容易。堅持,好像也比較能夠搏得旁人的稱讚。但開始慢跑後,我覺
得,堅持很好,但到底要不要堅持「到底」,就有待商榷了。
堅持到底,有時候代表了「不計一切代價」,代表了犧牲,代表了取捨。面
對身體,你若要堅持到底,最後大概就是自傷,就代表一段時間你連「堅
持」都無能為力,遑論「堅持到底」。
慢跑讓我學會的,就是這兩件事。
